Happy Hair - 3 Ingredient DIY Natural Hair Masks

Keep your sun-bleached, salt-drenched beach hair happy and healthy with these easy and natural hair mask recipes.

THE ULTIMATE HAIR MASK

Eggs, coconut oil, and olive oil are simply the best possible combination of protein, vitamins, nutrients and moisture you can give your hair.

  • 1-2 raw eggs*
  • 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil*
  • 1-2 tablespoon of olive oil*

*depending on the length of your hair.

  1. Warm up the coconut oil for about 15-20 seconds (Allow it too cool for about 1-2 minutes)
  2. Combine the coconut oil, eggs, and olive oil with a whisk until smooth.
  3. Apply the mask all over your hair by massaging from the roots down into the ends.
  4. After application, apply plastic wrap, or a plastic bag on your hair to seal the mask and create heat.
  5. Leave the mask in your hair for a minimum of one hour - the longer, the better.
  6. Wash out with lukewarm (hot water can potentially cook the raw egg).
  7. Shampoo and condition as normal after.

COCONUT OIL + HONEY + AVOCADO

Coconut oil will help moisturize your dry locks and will promote hair growth, it also contains Vitamin E that will help rebuild protein in the hair making it stronger; Honey adds shine to lackluster hair, in addition to helping prevent hair loss, and because avocado is so rich in proteins, amino acids and vitamins, it’ll nourish your strands.

  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ ripe avocado
  1. Heat the coconut oil in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds (Allow it too cool for about 1-2 minutes).
  2. Mix coconut oil and honey together in a bowl. Mash the avocado in a separate bowl with a fork and add to coconut oil and honey combination. Mix well.
  3. Comb and detangle your hair, then divide it into sections. Apply the mixture from roots to ends, making sure to thoroughly saturate the hair.
  4. After application, apply plastic wrap, or a plastic bag on your hair to seal the mask and create heat.
  5. Leave the mask in your hair for a minimum of ½ an hour, the longer, the better (max 5 hours).
  6. Rinse out hair mask. Shampoo and condition as usual.

BANANA SMOOTHIE

Bananas are loaded with potassium, vitamins, folic acid, and antioxidants that help rejuvenate hair and also help with hair loss, whilst yogurt is full of protein to make your hair stronger, as well as lactic acid that will help whisk away old, dead skin cells that might have accumulated on your hair and caused it to become lifeless.

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp plain greek yogurt
  • 3 tsp honey
  1. In a small bowl, mash banana, honey and yogurt until smooth and creamy.
  2. Apply to damp hair and comb through using a wide tooth comb.
  3. Put hair in a shower cap and relax for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Thoroughly rinse hair using lukewarm water.
  5. Shampoo and condition as usual.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR + HONEY + OLIVE OIL

Apple Cider Vinegar is a great treatment for itchy and dry scalp, it helps with cleansing and removing buildup (try mixing it with baking soda for a natural shampoo) and its also helps to fight tangles by flattening the hairs surface allowing it to be combed easily.

  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  1. In a small bowl whisk apple cider vinegar, honey and olive oil until a smooth mask is formed.
  2. Apply the hair mask using your fingers onto your scalp and hair.
  3. Leave the mask in for 10 - 15 mins, rinse off the hair mask with 2 - 3 washes of warm water - no shampoo needed necessary.
